Forklift truck rental : pitfalls you must avoid

Before renting a handling machine, make sure to choose one that suits your needs and environment.

As crucial as respecting the maximum load capacity, the issue of load centering must be considered with utmost attention for pallet trucks and forklifts.

  • Forward tilting

If load exceeds the maximum capacity of the truck, or if it is not equally distributed on the pallet (concentrated on one end for example), the truck will tilt forward. The same phenomenon can occur when lifting and inclining the load forward as the gravity center of the load is moved apart from the truck.
Results : the forklift tilts forward or the load falls.

  • Lateral tilting

The bigger the load, the lesser the sideways stability of the machine on the ground. Over a certain height, the slightest impulse can break the balance and lead to lateral tilting if the load is too heavy.
One solution exists : anticipate the risk and choose a machine with enough distance between wheels to ensure stability.

  • Centrifugal force

The forklift can also tilt while moving under the effect of the centrifugal force, when the load is too heavy or the speed too high in a curve. Strict driving rules must be observed to avoid any accident.
